A secret gameplay demo (no recording allowed) at QuakeCon showed new features that are in the game including the return of classic enemies such as Hellknights, Cyberdemons, Revenants, and Mancubii.
Original Doom Weapons
The demo also showed off some of the original weapons that are making a comeback. These weapons include the double-barrelled shotgun, plasma rifle, rocket launcher, and the chainsaw.
Along with the weapons shown, the mechanics are back as well, meaning that there is no reload or regenerating health - pickup form is back in action.
Updated Graphics (Obviously)
To reboot a Doom game, or bring classic touches back in this case, you have to update the game to the current machines that will be running it. Since Doom is exclusive to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC they are planning to run the game at 1080p and 60fps, which is great considering a lot of games coming out now aren’t following that guideline. It is nice to see Doom lead the pack with that one.
The game will also be based around the id Tech 6 engine according to Stratton.
The new Doom takes place outside of a UAC research facility on Mars, at the outset of a demonic invasion.
Also they confirmed that those who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC have access to the beta when it becomes available sometime in the future.
We’re awaiting a release date for the game but this new information hopefully will get fans excited about a modernized version of the game that made history.
